On Wednesday, Joe Wilson announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19. The US Representative from South Carolina will begin isolation during the holidays.
“Earlier this evening I learned that I have tested positive for COVID-19. I will be taking all necessary precautions, as directed by the House Physician. Thankfully I feel fine and do not have any symptoms. It is so important that we all do our part to help prevent the spread of this virus.”The South Carolina Republican said.
Fortunately, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi implemented a new rule at Capitol Hill. Members must keep masks on when they address the chamber from the floor.
Several members from both parties and chambers of Congress have contracted the Coronavirus. Forty-eight lawmakers have been affected. The full number consists of 37 House members and 11 senators. The virus is rapidly growing and has reached a US average of over 200,000 new cases a day.
The rapid spread of the virus poses a significant threat. Lawmakers are currently negotiating the stimulus relief plan. Wilson has since deleted a post on Facebook mocking virus precautions.
Ironically, Wilson praised Donald Trump’s coronavirus response.
