Southwest Pilot Investigated For Reported Anti-Biden Chant

Southwest Airlines announced on Sunday that it is investigating an incident in which one of its pilots reportedly signed off over the intercom using a coded insult of President Joe Biden.

The phrase, which was amplified through the cabin, is a well-established chant among supporters of former president Donald Trump: “Let’s Go Brandon!” It’s used as a G-rated stand-in for “f— Joe Biden.” The insult has become so widespread that it has even been used on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

An Associated Press reporter happened to be on the flight, and almost got kicked off the aircraft for seeking comment from the pilot about the announcement. She happened to be working on a story about the “Let’s Go Brandon” meme and points out that former President Trump, who will merchandise anything from vodka to steaks, now sells a $45 T-shirt featuring “Let’s go Brandon” above an American flag.

Southwest released this statement on Sunday.

“Southwest does not condone Employees sharing their personal political opinions while on the job serving our Customers, especially when comments are divisive and offensive.”

“Southwest is conducting an internal investigation into the recently reported incident and will address the matter directly with any Employee involved,” the statement continued. “The airline apologizes for this event — an action that was not reflective of the Southwest Hospitality for which we are known.”
