“It seems pretty clear to me that he should be disclosing the individual land assets that are held by” the shell company, said Delaney Marsco, a senior attorney who specializes in congressional ethics at the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center in Washington.
Comer’s ties to his campaign contributor, Darren Cleary, who co-owns the six acres, have also come into focus. Cleary, a construction contractor and major campaign donor, praised Comer on social media and donated approximately $70,000 to Comer’s campaigns. The partnership between Comer and Cleary involves the joint purchase and sale of land, and questions arise about the purpose of placing these assets in a shell company.
Comer’s financial dealings and relationships have gained attention as he leads the GOP’s impeachment investigation. Critics highlight the apparent contradiction between Comer’s actions and his pursuit of transparency in the Biden probe. His ties to local figures with complicated pasts further contribute to the scrutiny.
