Trump and DeSantis Hold “Friendly” Meeting Over Breakfast in Florida

Former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently met privately for breakfast in Florida, signaling a potential thaw in their relationship.

Sources described the meeting as “nice” and “friendly,” with DeSantis planning to assist in fundraising efforts for Trump. The meeting was arranged by mutual contact Steven Witkoff, the chairman of a real estate company.

While the meeting was initially reported to be a move by DeSantis to “bury the hatchet” and discuss fundraising, DeSantis had previously expressed criticism of Trump during the Republican primary contest. However, he later endorsed Trump after suspending his own campaign, emphasizing the need for a focus on the American people’s issues.

DeSantis has also expressed differences with Trump on certain issues, including abortion and the perception of the political establishment. Despite this, DeSantis has maintained that he is not seeking the vice presidency or any other political position beyond his current role as governor of Florida.

“I don’t want to be VP. I don’t want to be in the Cabinet. I don’t want a TV show,” DeSantis said in January, before he dropped out. “I’m in it to win it.”

The meeting between Trump and DeSantis comes amid speculation about potential presidential aspirations for both men. While Trump has not yet selected a running mate, DeSantis has consistently stated his intention to focus on his role as governor rather than pursue higher office.

DeSantis told donors and supporters during a private retreat in April that he planned to help raise money for Trump’s campaign, NBC News first reported.

Overall, the meeting reflects the complex dynamics within the Republican Party and the evolving relationships between its key figures as they navigate the political landscape leading up to the next election cycle.
