Unsupported Claims Of Election Fraud Continue At Senate Hearing

Joe Biden‘s Presidential Victory was a blowout win with 306 out of 538 electoral votes. On Wednesday, Senator Ron Johnson’s Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee held a hearing to once again dispute the 2020 election results. They attempted to discredit the election with several unproven conspiracy theories.

He called GOP attorney Ken Starr and a Republican state legislator from Pennsylvania to the stand to testify to unsupported claims of fraud in the states of Nevada, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.

The Democrats called Election security official Christopher Krebs to the stand. Krebs was the Department of Homeland Security Chief of Cybersecurity until President Trump fired him last month for saying the election was indeed secure.

“I think we’re past the point where we need to be having conversations about the outcome of this election. The attacks from Trump and his GOP allies on the election  are ultimately corrosive to the institutions that support elections.” Krebs said.

While Johnson worked relentlessly to create a false narrative with no evidence, Krebs pointed out that paper ballots back up counts in contested states.

“It’s important to step back and actually look at how votes are cast in the country, particularly with paper ballots, and that regardless of any internet connections, regardless of foreign hacking, as long as you’ve got the paper receipt … you can check your math. Georgia did that three times and the outcomes were consistent,” Krebs said.

Senator Gary Peters was very blatant in calling the hearing a waste of time.

“Whether intended or not, this hearing gives a platform to conspiracy theories and lies and is a destructive exercise that has no place in the US Senate. Joe Biden won the election. There were no widespread election irregularities that affected the final outcome. These claims are false. And giving them more oxygen is a grave threat to the future of our democracy,” he said.

Johnson immediately attacked Peters with a series of allegations. According to Johnson, Peters was the one responsible for spreading disinformation.

“You lied repeatedly in the press that I was spreading Russian disinformation. I can’t sit by here and listen to this and say — this is not disinformation at this hearing today. We’re not going to be able to just move on without bringing up these irregularities,” Johnson said.

Trump wasted no time attacking remarks made from the hearing. “Chris Krebs was excoriated and proven wrong at the Senate Hearing on the Fraudulent 2020 Election. Massive FRAUD took place with machines, people voting from out of state, illegals, dead people, no signatures—and so much more!” he said.
