Music icon Taylor Swift officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign following Harris’ debate with former President Donald Trump. The singer, who has over 283 million Instagram followers, announced her decision to back the Democratic nominee, calling Harris a “steady-handed, gifted leader.”

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift wrote in an Instagram post. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader, and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

Swift’s message came shortly after the high-profile debate between Harris and Trump, in which the two candidates clashed over issues like inflation, immigration, and abortion rights. Swift emphasized her admiration for Harris’ approach to governance, contrasting it with what she described as the “chaos” of the Trump era.

The Grammy-winning artist also praised Harris’ selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, commending his long-standing advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and women’s reproductive freedom. “I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice,” Swift wrote. “Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make.”

Swift’s endorsement was highly anticipated, given her political activism since 2020, when she first voiced her support for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the previous presidential race. This time, Swift’s decision to back Harris was seen as a potential game-changer for the campaign, particularly due to her strong influence over young voters.

In a nod to her fanbase, Swift also encouraged voter registration and early voting. “Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early,” she said, adding that she would link voting resources in her Instagram story.

The Harris campaign was reportedly surprised but thrilled by Swift’s backing. “Taylor Swift’s endorsement speaks to the kind of broad support we’re building for this election,” a campaign official told NBC News.

Swift’s post also addressed AI-generated misinformation circulating on social media that falsely suggested she had endorsed Trump. “It really conjured up my fears around AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” Swift wrote, highlighting the importance of combating false narratives with truth.

The endorsement, while long expected, has added significant momentum to the Harris-Walz campaign. Swift’s advocacy could be a powerful force in mobilizing younger voters, particularly those who view her as a role model in both music and activism.
