Caitlyn Jenner has announced that she will challenge Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom in a recall election.
“California has been my home for nearly 50 years,” Jenner wrote on her campaign website.
The Olympic gold medalist and reality television star says she moved to California because it was a place where people could turn their dreams into reality.
“But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interest over people,” Jenner wrote.
“Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision
According to Newsweek, Jenner is working with a team of well-known GOP operatives.
Governor Newsom assumed office in 2019.
Disappointed in his leadership, some Californians are working hard to replace the Governor. Organizers have garnered over one million signatures in a recall effort.
The Los Angeles Times noted that the GOP has not won a statewide election in California since 2006 — but it can take far fewer votes to win the governorship through a recall than a normal election.
