U.S. Administered More Than 864,000 Vaccinations In 24 Hour Period

The White House announced on Thursday that the US has administered more than 864,000 vaccinations in recent days. This is the highest daily rate since July 3.

The Biden Administration is pushing Americans to get vaccinated as the rate of COVID-19 infections rises and different variants of the virus form. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus is responsible for 93.4% of COVID-19 cases. Last week, President Joe Biden issued a vaccine requirement for all government workers and contractors.

“Already, we’re seeing momentum in vaccination requirements across the country. Businesses know vaccinations are a way to keep their workers and customers safe and to keep their doors open,” Jeff Zients, White House COVID-19 coordinator, said at a White House COVID-19 response team briefing this week.

“Our message is quite simple: We support these vaccination requirements to protect workers, communities and the country,” the COVID-19 coordinator said.

“Clearly, Americans are seeing the impact of being unvaccinated and unprotected. And they’ve responded [sic] by doing their part, rolling up their sleeves, and getting vaccinated.”

During the briefing, Zients told reporters that the White House is working with sixteen states to help with testing mobile vaccination clinics, and hospital capacity issues.

According to CNN, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Louisiana, and Oklahoma have the highest infection rates in the United States.

Several states with the highest vaccine demand are also those seeing the worst Covid surges, such as Florida, where daily vaccinations have jumped by about 67 percent in the past month.

Florida and Texas are bearing the brunt of the current Covid surge. These two states have accounted for one-third of new cases and hospitalizations in the past week.

Together with Florida and Texas, these eight states make up half of new U.S. cases and hospitalizations in the past week – but make up less than a quarter of the total population.
