The former Fox News host blames the Iran war and conservative media influence for the Republican Party's historic losses, raising questions about the future of the MAGA movement.

Tucker Carlson is declaring the end of the Trump era after Democrats delivered major victories in the 2026 midterm elections, ending Republican control of Congress and triggering a wave of finger-pointing within the conservative movement.

During his Wednesday episode of The Tucker Carlson Show, the former Fox News host delivered a harsh assessment of the Republican Party, Donald Trump’s leadership and the conservative media establishment that helped shape the political movement behind Trump’s return to the White House.

“This is the end of the Trump era last night. We’re done. It’s also the end, by the way, of the Fox News era,” Carlson told viewers.

Carlson argued that Fox News played a significant role in pushing Trump toward military action against Iran, which has become a major source of political fallout for Republicans. He specifically pointed to programming featuring conservative commentators Mark Levin and the hosts of Fox & Friends, arguing that the network’s coverage helped build support for the military campaign.

Carlson’s accusation represents his interpretation of the network’s influence. It has not been independently established that Fox News caused Trump to enter the war.

The election results have created a major political setback for Republicans. Democrats captured control of both the House and Senate, leaving Trump’s administration facing a Congress controlled by the opposing party for the final two years of his term.

The Associated Press reported that Democrats’ victories reflected voter frustration over the economy, the cost of living and concerns about the administration’s direction. The results also open the door to congressional investigations of the Trump administration and renewed Democratic efforts to reverse portions of the Republican legislative agenda.

The Iran War Becomes A Republican Liability

Carlson’s criticism comes as Republican leaders and prominent conservative figures struggle to explain the party’s losses.

Vice President JD Vance directly blamed the Iran war for the election results, arguing that the conflict had become a costly political decision for Republicans. In a November 4 statement, Vance said the party’s losses could not be honestly discussed without addressing the war.

Trump also acknowledged that the conflict contributed to Republican defeats, particularly through higher gasoline prices, although he defended his decision to launch the military operation.

The war has created divisions within the Republican coalition, particularly among conservatives who supported Trump’s earlier promises to prioritize domestic issues and avoid prolonged foreign conflicts.

For Carlson, the problem extends beyond the election results. His argument is that conservative media figures helped promote a foreign policy direction that contradicted the expectations of voters who supported Trump’s America First message.

A Growing Divide Inside The MAGA Movement

Carlson’s remarks come as the conservative media world faces an increasingly public fight over who is responsible for the Republican Party’s losses.

According to The Washington Post, conservative commentators have offered competing explanations, with some blaming Trump, others criticizing congressional leadership and several attacking fellow media personalities.

Carlson has also become a target of criticism from conservatives who believe influential podcasters and commentators helped weaken Republican enthusiasm before Election Day.

The disagreements expose divisions within a political movement that previously presented a more unified front behind Trump.

The dispute also involves competing visions for the Republican Party’s future. Some conservatives want the party to return to its anti-interventionist foreign policy message, while others continue to support a more aggressive American role overseas.

What Happens To Trump’s Political Influence Now?

Democratic control of Congress will create new obstacles for Trump’s legislative agenda. Democrats have already discussed investigations into the administration, efforts to reverse Republican healthcare cuts and increased congressional oversight.

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries could become the first Black speaker of the House when the new Congress takes office in January 2027.

For Republicans, the election results have opened a leadership struggle and raised questions about how closely candidates should align themselves with Trump heading into the next election cycle.

Carlson’s declaration that the Trump era is ending is a political assessment, not an established conclusion. Trump remains in office, and the election results do not automatically determine the future of his influence over Republican voters.

However, the election has exposed disagreements over the direction of the party, the Iran war and the role conservative media should play in shaping Republican policy.

The coming months will show whether Republican leaders attempt to rebuild the coalition around Trump’s agenda or move toward a different political direction.
