After months of claiming that mail-in ballots contributed to election fraud, former president Donald Trump has request one for a municipal election in South Florida.
The Palm Beach Post reports that a mail-in ballot was requested for the president’s residence at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach.
In August, Trump praised Florida’s vote-by-mail system.
“Whether you call it Vote by Mail or Absentee Voting, in Florida the election system is Safe and Secure, Tried and True,” Trump tweeted. “Florida’s Voting System has been cleaned up (we defeated Democrats attempts at change), so in Florida I encourage all to request a Ballot & Vote by Mail!”
According to the Palm Beach Post, more than one-third of eligible voters requested mail-in ballots — 126,000 voters. Trump believes that Republican-run states with mail-in voting have a trustworthy voting system.
“So Florida’s got a great Republican governor and it had a great Republican governor (before that)… and over a long period of time they’ve been able to get the absentee ballots done extremely professionally. Florida’s different from other states,” Trump said.
“With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA,” Trump tweeted in July. “Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???”
There is no evidence that mail-in voting is fraudulent. When Trump made baseless claims after his presidential election loss, he could not provide evidence of fraud.
