Senate To Award Capitol Police Officer Congressional Gold Medal

On Friday, the Senate passed legislation to award Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman the Congressional Gold Medal for his actions responding to the Jan. 6 attacks at the Capitol.

The Senate passed the legislation via unanimous consent as it wrapped up the fourth day of former President Trump’s impeachment trial. The Senate gave Goodman a standing ovation when he was recognized in the chamber on Friday.

Goodman has been praised as a hero for leading the mob away from an immediate entrance to the Senate chamber on Jan. 6 as staffers were racing to lock down the chamber.

New video from the Senate impeachment trial also showed Goodman directing Senator Mitt Romney away from the mob on that day.
