Nancy Pelosi Recovering After Successful Hip Surgery Following Injury Abroad

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, is recovering after undergoing a successful hip replacement surgery in Germany following an injury sustained during a congressional trip to Luxembourg. Pelosi’s spokesperson, Ian Krager, announced Saturday that the surgery was performed at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center with follow-up care at Hospital Kirchberg.

“Speaker Pelosi is grateful to U.S. military staff at Landstuhl and the medical team at Hospital Kirchberg for their excellent care and kindness,” Krager said. “She is well on the mend and appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of prayers and well wishes.”

Pelosi, who was injured Friday, was transported by MEDEVAC to the U.S. military hospital in Germany. Specific details about the injury have not been disclosed. According to Krager, Pelosi “regrets being unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements” commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, a pivotal event in World War II history.

The former speaker, who made history in 2007 as the first woman to hold the position, was traveling with over a dozen members of Congress to honor the sacrifices of American servicemembers. Pelosi was initially evaluated and hospitalized in Luxembourg before being transferred to Germany for further treatment.

Krager highlighted Pelosi’s resilience and commitment, stating that she remains “ever determined to ensure access to quality health care for all Americans.” Despite her recovery, Pelosi continues to work remotely, reflecting her ongoing dedication to public service.

Pelosi, one of the oldest members of Congress, stepped down from her leadership role in 2022 after serving as House Speaker for four terms. She was re-elected in November and is set to serve through 2026, though she has not announced plans for another term.

The news of Pelosi’s injury follows a similar incident involving outgoing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 82, who recently fell during a Senate lunch, sustaining minor injuries.

Pelosi’s recovery is expected to continue in Germany before returning to the U.S.
