Hunter Biden is gearing up to take legal action against Fox News, accusing the network of defaming him and violating his rights. According to a letter obtained by NBC News, Biden’s lawyers are preparing to sue Fox News Channel and Fox News Digital for allegedly spreading false information and exploiting his image without permission.
The letter, dated April 23, notifies Fox News of impending litigation over claims related to a “conspiracy” to defame Biden and unlawfully use his likeness. Mark Geragos, Biden’s attorney, and his firm are leading the legal efforts. The letter, signed by Geragos’ partner Tina Glandian, marks the second formal communication to Fox News this month. A previous letter was delivered two weeks ago, prompting the network to request more time to respond.
In the letter, Biden’s legal team asserts that Fox News knowingly perpetuated false bribery allegations against him, originating from FBI informant Alexander Smirnov, who was indicted earlier this year. Geragos emphasized the significance of holding Fox News accountable, stating, “We plan on holding them accountable.”
Fox News has faced similar legal challenges in the past, including settling defamation claims with Dominion Voting Systems for nearly $800 million. Hunter Biden’s case against Fox News is seen as significant, given the network’s extensive coverage of him in recent years. Media Matters reports over 13,000 mentions of Hunter Biden on Fox News since January 2023.
The letter also addresses Fox News’ six-part series titled “The Trial of Hunter Biden,” which aired in October 2021. Biden’s legal team alleges that the series distorted facts and manipulated information to entertain viewers, demanding its removal from all streaming platforms.
Biden’s decision to pursue legal action against Fox News comes amidst his own legal battles. He faces upcoming trials on gun charges in Delaware starting June 3 and a tax case expected to go to trial in August, maintaining his innocence in both cases.
Overall, Hunter Biden’s impending lawsuit against Fox News signals a significant legal showdown between the president’s son and one of the largest news networks in the United States.
