Fulton Grand Jury Recommended Charges Against Senator Graham; Former Senators Perdue, and Loeffler

A special grand jury in Georgia, tasked with investigating efforts to undermine the 2020 election, recommended criminal indictments for several allies of Donald Trump, including Senator Lindsey Graham, who had not been charged by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. The report from this special grand jury, which was filed in December but kept confidential until now, shows that a majority of the panel urged broader indictments of individuals linked to efforts to subvert the election.

**The list of individuals recommended for indictment includes:**

– Senator Lindsey Graham
– Former senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler of Georgia
– Trump adviser Boris Epshteyn
– Former national security adviser Michael Flynn
– Attorney Cleta Mitchell

Graham responded to the news, stating he had done nothing wrong and that he had voted to certify Joe Biden’s victory on January 6, 2021:

“To suggest I’m part of some grand scheme to overturn the election makes no sense given my actions.”

However, he emphasized his continued support for Trump in the 2024 presidential race:

“I am standing with President Trump. We’ll see what happens in the courts but we’ll also see what happens at the ballot box.”

The special grand jury was tasked with making recommendations to the district attorney, and it played a role in gathering evidence used to secure indictments last month against Trump and 18 others. The report indicates some dissent among the jurors, with varying opinions on who should be charged for different alleged crimes related to the election.

It remains uncertain if District Attorney Willis will pursue indictments against these individuals. She has scheduled a trial for Trump and his codefendants for March 4, although the trial schedule is subject to change.

Attorney Jesse Binnall, representing Michael Flynn, dismissed the grand jury report as a politically motivated effort to undermine Trump and interfere in the 2024 election:

“Today’s report reveals even more corruption by a politically-motivated prosecutor with one goal: to take down President Trump and his associates, and interfere in the 2024 election. This baseless witch hunt isn’t based on the facts, or the law, or reality.”

The report’s recommendations have stirred political and legal debates, highlighting the ongoing controversies surrounding the aftermath of the 2020 election and the potential legal consequences for those involved.
