Biden May Nominate Janet Yellen, Making Her The First Female Treasury Secretary

President-elect Joe Biden may nominate Janet Yellen to serve as Treasury secretary, according to reports from The Wall Street Journal. Yellen, a former Federal Reserve chairwoman will be the first woman to serve as head of the Department of Treasury.

In 2014, Yellen became the first woman to head the Federal Reserve after she was chosen by President Barack Obama. She led the Federal Reserve from 2014 to 2018 making her one of the most powerful women in the world. Her former colleagues often describe her as being like Mary Poppins: firm but kind, incredibly smart, and always prepared. The question she asks often — of herself and her team — is: What are we missing? And what if we’re wrong?

She was one of the first policymakers to foresee the 2008 financial crisis and the problems in the housing market. She was always the most prepared in the room

Yellen has a background in economics. She was educated at Yale University where she received a doctorate in economics. She has taught economics at Harvard University, University of California – Berkeley, and the London School of Economics.
