President-elect Joe Biden held a drive-in rally in Atlanta as a promotion for the January 5 Georgia runoffs. He publicly ridiculed Georgia’s GOP senators, Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue. According to Biden, the Republicans “stood by and fully embraced nullifying nearly 5 million Georgia votes.”
After the November 3 election, in which neither Loeffler nor Perdue received fifty percent of the vote, both races were sent into a special runoff election. During the rally, Biden accused Loeffler and Perdue of siding with Trump, who attempted to undo Georgia’s election results.
Loeffler was recently photographed with a KKK leader, and Perdue is facing mounting criticism for his stock trades after he was briefed privately on the coronavirus earlier this year.
The GOP senators are running against Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, two Democrats. Whichever party wins the January 5 election will hold control of the Senate.
Biden is urging voters to show up in record-breaking numbers. “Don’t give them an excuse. Don’t let them take away your power,” he said. According to the president-elect, Democratic candidates will be the “doers and not roadblocks.”
“They won’t put Donald Trump first. They won’t put themselves first, either. They’ll put you first, the people of Georgia,” he said. If the Democratic challengers win, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be responsible for casting a 50-50 chamber tiebreaker.
