A second member of the right-wing terrorist organization, Oath Keepers, will cooperate with federal prosecutors and testify against other organization members.
Mark Grods, a 54-year-old who admitted he brought firearms to D.C. and was part of the tactical “stack” formation that advanced toward the Capitol that day, made a deal with prosecutors. He is set to plead guilty to conspiracy and obstruction of Congress’ certification of the electoral college.
The Oath Keepers are at the center of one of the highest-profile conspiracy cases connected to the Capitol riot, with 16 alleged members charged together in a single indictment. In pleading guilty, Grods admitted to allegations that place him at the center of multiple key claims in that case.
According to CNN, Grods will admit to training and recruiting people for the deadly attack at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.
A judge said Wednesday that Grods’ recommended sentencing guidelines would be between 51 to 63 months — a little over 4 to 5 years — with an estimated fine ranging from $20,000 to $250,000. Grods also agreed to pay $2,000 in restitution.
Prosecutors believe that the Oath Keepers are responsible for forming a Quick Reaction Force. A Quick Reaction Force is an armed military unit capable of reacting quickly to situations.
Last week, prosecutors secured the first guilty plea in the Oath Keepers conspiracy case with defendant Graydon Young, 55, of Englewood, Florida, who was arrested in February. Young has also agreed to cooperate with investigators.
