Trump Targets Indiana GOP Leaders Over Redistricting Standoff

President Donald Trump is escalating pressure on Republican leaders in Indiana, publicly calling for the ouster of the state Senate’s top lawmaker after he declined to reconvene the chamber to consider a mid-cycle redrawing of congressional maps favored by the GOP.

In a pair of sharply worded posts Sunday on Truth Social, Trump said he was “very disappointed” in Senate President Pro Tempore Rodric Bray and state Sen. Greg Goode, accusing both men of blocking a redistricting push he argues is essential to securing a Republican majority in the U.S. House.

“Because of these two politically correct type ‘gentlemen,’ and a few others, they could be depriving Republicans of a Majority in the House, A VERY BIG DEAL!” Trump wrote.

He also took aim at Indiana Gov. Mike Braun, saying the governor failed to marshal the votes needed to greenlight the special session.

“Considering that Mike wouldn’t be Governor without me (Not even close!), is disappointing!” Trump said. “Any Republican that votes against this important redistricting, potentially having an impact on America itself, should be PRIMARIED.”

Goode has previously said he would not take a position until the Senate formally introduced a map and related legislation. A spokesperson for the senator said Sunday he “respectfully maintains that position.” A representative for Bray did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and a spokesperson for Braun declined to comment.

Bray signed a proclamation last month calling for a special session but has maintained that individual lawmakers must decide whether to “show up to vote for fair maps.”

Trump has pushed for mid-decade redistricting in several Republican-controlled states as he seeks to lock down GOP control of Congress ahead of next year’s midterms. Vice President JD Vance has made multiple trips to Indiana to encourage the effort, and both Bray and state House Speaker Todd Huston discussed the proposal with Trump in the Oval Office in August.

But Bray’s decision Friday not to reconvene the Senate comes as Democrats pursue aggressive redistricting plans of their own. California voters recently passed Proposition 50, directing the state to redraw five congressional districts to favor Democrats. Similar efforts are underway in Illinois and Maryland.

Trump warned Sunday that he intends to publicly name additional Indiana lawmakers he believes are obstructing the GOP’s attempt to redraw the maps.

“Senators Bray, Goode, and the others to be released to the public later this afternoon, should DO THEIR JOB, AND DO IT NOW!” Trump wrote. “If not, let’s get them out of office, ASAP.”
