Fox News hosted a town hall featuring Donald Trump, but the network is under fire for editing out pro-Trump comments from the women’s audience, many of whom were local Republican supporters.
Fox News edited out pro-Trump comments during a women’s town hall featuring the former president in Georgia. The event, which aired Wednesday morning, covered key issues like reproductive rights and transgender policies. However, Fox did not disclose that the audience was filled with local Republican supporters, and the network removed certain remarks that indicated overt support for Trump.
During the town hall, Trump fielded questions from women voters, but some of the attendees had ties to local Republican groups. Lisa, the first audience member to ask Trump a question, was identified only by her first name, though she is also the president of the Fulton County Republican Women. Her Republican affiliation wasn’t mentioned during the broadcast.
In a moment that wasn’t aired, a woman named Alicia thanked Trump for coming to a “room full of women the current administration would consider domestic terrorists” before asking about foreign policy. Fox News later edited out her statement that she had already voted for Trump.
The town hall audience was vocal in its support for Trump, with many standing to cheer when he criticized President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. In another segment not included in the broadcast, Trump asked the audience who they were voting for, leading to chants of “Trump, Trump.”
A Fox News spokesperson told CNN that the event was not hosted by any Republican organization, despite the Georgia Federation of Republican Women initially posting about their role in organizing the event. The group later edited its post to say it had merely attended. Fox News did not address why the pro-Trump statements were cut from the final version of the broadcast.
The event has sparked criticism, with many noting the lack of transparency in how the audience was selected. Despite these concerns, Trump received an overwhelmingly positive reception from attendees, further fueling his campaign’s efforts to reach out to women voters.
Rachel, another attendee who asked a question during the town hall while wearing a Trump pin, later appeared on Fox News to discuss the event, denying any formal connection to Republican groups. “I’m nobody and I’m not registered with anybody,” she said, claiming she found out about the event via Facebook.
Trump’s campaign continues to highlight his support from Republican women, and the edited town hall showcased his strong backing among female voters in Georgia. However, the edits raise questions about the transparency of the event and Fox News’ portrayal of audience reactions.
