Trump Signs Executive Orders on IVF Access, Government Transparency

President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders Tuesday, including measures aimed at expanding access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) and increasing government transparency. Speaking from his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, Trump also issued a presidential memorandum mandating a review of government spending, which he claimed could eliminate waste and inefficiency.

Trump’s IVF order marks a major policy shift for the former president, who has been advocating for broader IVF coverage after the Supreme Court, reshaped by his judicial appointments, overturned Roe v. Wade. The ruling led to strict abortion restrictions in Republican-led states, some of which have threatened access to fertility treatments by defining life as beginning at conception.

“I think women and families, husbands, are very appreciative,” Trump said of the IVF order. The procedure, which involves fertilizing eggs outside the body and transferring them to the uterus, is a common fertility treatment for those struggling to conceive. Trump’s order aims to make the procedure more affordable and accessible to Americans.

Musk’s Expanding Role in Trump Administration Raises Questions

In addition to the IVF initiative, Trump signed another executive order reinforcing the oversight functions of the Office of Management and Budget. A related presidential memorandum calls for “radical transparency requirements” across federal agencies, with a focus on exposing “waste, fraud, and abuse.” These efforts are being spearheaded by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an agency overseen by billionaire Elon Musk.

Despite DOGE’s stated mission of increasing transparency, the agency has come under scrutiny for its secretive operations. Musk has only taken questions from journalists once since assuming his role and has claimed it is illegal to disclose the identities of DOGE personnel. Additionally, DOGE staff have reportedly demanded access to sensitive government databases without providing clear justifications.

When asked about the White House’s legal filing stating that Musk was not officially the head of the government’s efficiency efforts, Trump brushed off the claim.

“You could call him an employee, you could call him a consultant, you could call him whatever you want. But he’s a patriot,” Trump said.

Trump Addresses Ukraine, Government Spending, and Global Aid

During a 30-minute press conference, Trump took questions on a wide range of issues, frequently attacking the Biden administration’s policies on the U.S.-Mexico border, Venezuela, and Ukraine. He reiterated his belief that he could broker a peace deal in Russia’s war against Ukraine but appeared to blame Kyiv for the conflict.

“Today I heard, ‘Well, we weren’t invited.’ Well, you’ve been there for three years,” Trump said of Ukrainian leaders. “You should have never started it.”

The former president also defended his administration’s push to slash federal spending. He listed multiple foreign aid programs, including U.S. funding for voter turnout initiatives in India and social cohesion programs in Mali, which he argued were examples of government waste.

Trump’s latest policy moves highlight his dual focus on domestic issues—such as expanding IVF access—and reducing government expenditures. However, the growing influence of Musk in federal decision-making, coupled with Trump’s unfiltered commentary on global affairs, continues to raise questions about his leadership approach as he eyes a potential return to the White House.
