Trump Nominates State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce for UN Deputy Post

President Donald Trump on Saturday announced he will nominate State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce to serve as the next deputy representative to the United Nations.

“Since the beginning of my Second Term, Tammy has been serving with distinction as Spokesperson of the State Department, where she did a fantastic job,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.

If confirmed by the Senate, Bruce will hold the rank of ambassador. The White House did not say who will succeed her as State Department spokesperson.

The deputy role would place Bruce directly under Trump’s pick for U.N. ambassador — former national security adviser Mike Waltz — whose nomination has been stalled in the Senate since his confirmation hearing last month. Waltz faced pointed questioning over the administration’s foreign policy priorities and his approach to the job if confirmed.

The U.N. ambassador position has remained vacant since the start of Trump’s second term, making it the last Cabinet-level post awaiting Senate confirmation. If both Waltz and Bruce are approved, she would step in whenever the U.N. ambassador is absent.

Before entering the Trump administration, Bruce was a Fox News contributor and hosted the program Get Tammy Bruce, beginning in 2019 on the network’s streaming platform.

Trump’s choice comes amid a broader effort to fill top diplomatic roles that have faced delays in the Senate. While the deputy U.N. representative is not a Cabinet-level post, the position plays a key role in advancing U.S. policy at the United Nations and maintaining continuity when the ambassador is unavailable.
