President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Alina Habba, one of his most visible legal and media allies, as Counselor to the President.
The announcement, made Sunday, highlights Habba’s evolution from courtroom advocate to a trusted member of Trump’s incoming administration.
“Alina has been a tireless advocate for justice, a fierce defender of the rule of law, and an invaluable advisor to my campaign and transition team,” Trump said in a statement. “She has been unwavering in her loyalty and unmatched in her resolve.”
A Proven Legal Defender
Habba, a first-generation American of Iraqi Chaldean descent, has represented Trump in several high-profile civil cases. Notably, she defended him in the civil fraud trial brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, which concluded with a significant judgment against Trump.
She also serves as Trump’s legal counsel in defamation and sexual assault cases brought by columnist E. Jean Carroll, where juries awarded nearly $100 million in damages, currently under appeal. Habba previously managed Trump’s defamation suit against former “Apprentice” contestant Summer Zervos, which was ultimately dropped.
Trump emphasized Habba’s deep understanding of his legal and political challenges: “Few understand the weaponization of the ‘injustice’ system better than Alina, who has fought relentlessly against the full force of lawfare.”
A Trusted Political Advisor
Beyond her legal expertise, Habba has been a prominent spokesperson and senior advisor to Trump’s campaign. Frequently appearing on cable news, she has vocally defended Trump’s positions and criticized his legal opponents.
Habba also joined Trump on the campaign trail, speaking at rallies and at the Republican National Convention, where her impassioned speeches resonated with MAGA supporters.
A New Chapter in the White House
As Counselor to the President, Habba is expected to advise on both legal and policy matters. Her appointment to a role once held by Kellyanne Conway underscores her importance to Trump’s team as he prepares for his second term.
Habba called the appointment “the honor of my life,” adding in a statement on X, “Serving the 45th and 47th president and the American people is a privilege I take deeply to heart.”
With this appointment, Trump signals his continued reliance on loyalists as he faces ongoing political and legal challenges in his return to the White House.
