Trump Breaks With Marjorie Taylor Greene, Calls Her “Wacky” and Backs Potential Primary Challenger

President Donald Trump publicly severed ties Friday with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, once one of his closest MAGA allies, accusing the Georgia firebrand of drifting “Far Left” and vowing to endorse a primary challenger “if the right person runs.”

The extraordinary denunciation — delivered on Trump’s Truth Social account — caps months of friction between the former president and the three-term Republican, who has increasingly distanced herself from GOP leadership and criticized Trump’s focus amid the just-ended government shutdown.

“All she does is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!” Trump wrote, adding that he could no longer tolerate what he called her “ranting Lunatic’s call every day.”

Greene fired back within minutes.

“He attacked me and lied about me,” she wrote on X, posting a screenshot of a text message she said she sent Trump urging him to release the Jeffrey Epstein files. “It’s astonishing really how hard he’s fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out.”

The clash comes days before the House is expected to vote on legislation that would force the Justice Department to release long-secret documents tied to Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Greene implied that her pressure campaign angered Trump.

“I supported Trump with too much of my precious time, too much of my own money,” she said. “I don’t worship or serve Donald Trump.”

The public break follows the disappointing GOP showing in off-year gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia, losses Trump has privately blamed on undisciplined messaging from Republican lawmakers. Greene, who has recently repositioned herself through high-profile media appearances, has criticized Trump’s emphasis on foreign affairs over domestic economic struggles.

Last week she told NBC News that the president’s parade of foreign leader visits “is not helping Americans.” Trump said Friday that Greene had “lost her way,” suggesting “something happened to her over the last month or two.”

He added that Georgia Republicans had urged him to support a challenger.

“She’s lost a wonderful conservative reputation,” Trump said.

Greene’s political recalibration has been underway for months. She declined to run for Senate in May, lashed out at GOP consultants, sided with Tucker Carlson over Trump on foreign policy in June, and ruled out a run for governor in July while attacking Georgia’s Republican establishment.

Her recent appearances — including interviews aimed at more moderate audiences, an October spot on comedian Tim Dillon’s podcast, an HBO interview with Bill Maher, and a visit to ABC’s “The View” — intensified speculation that she was seeking to broaden her brand.

“I feel like I’m sitting next to a completely different Marjorie Taylor Greene,” said “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin.

“Maybe you should become a Democrat,” Joy Behar quipped.

“I’m not a Democrat,” Greene replied. “I think both parties have failed.”

With Friday’s public split, the once-unbreakable MAGA alliance appears fractured — and Georgia’s 2026 Republican primary suddenly looks far more volatile.
