The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the Texas lawsuit, a long-shot bid by Trump and the state of Texas to overturn the election results in four states won by Joe Biden.
“Texas has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another State conducts its elections,” the court wrote in its unsigned order. The decision brings an end to Trump’s efforts to upend the democratic process to preserve his presidency. Earlier this week, Trump tweeted this case was “the big one” and had publicly pressed the justices to rule for him to “save America.”
The Texas lawsuit, which won the backing of 126 Republican members of the House, including GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy and 17 states where Trump had won, was seen as a last ditch effort and a longshot by most legal experts from the start. Trump, who has appointed three of the court’s nine members, has long viewed the Supreme Court as something of an ace-in-the-hole, and called for the justices to display “courage” and rescue him in post-election litigation.
The move likely marks the end of the line for Trump’s legal push to reverse his defeat.
