Marjorie Taylor Greene says Trump’s MAGA Promise was a ‘lie,’ accuses Administration of Serving Wealthy Donors

Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., sharply criticized President Donald Trump this week, saying his signature Make America Great Again slogan was a “lie” and accusing his second administration of prioritizing wealthy donors and foreign interests over everyday Americans.

“I think people are realizing it was all a lie,” Greene said in a Wednesday interview with radio host Kim Iversen. “What MAGA is really serving in this administration, who they’re serving, is their big donors.”

Greene said Trump’s political operation is now focused on obliging wealthy benefactors who continue to bankroll his political action committees and special projects tied to the presidency.

“The big, big donors that donated all the money and continue to donate to the president’s PACs and donate to the 250th anniversary and are donating to the big ballroom,” Greene said, referring to private fundraising efforts linked to the White House and the upcoming semiquincentennial celebration.

Break with Trump and GOP leadership

Greene, a firebrand conservative who had been one of Trump’s most vocal allies in Congress, recently resigned from the House, citing deepening fractures within the Republican Party and growing disagreements with Trump and the broader MAGA movement.

She has publicly raised concerns about rising health care premiums and the war in Gaza, issues she said exposed divisions inside the GOP and led to her falling out with party leadership after years of loyalty to Trump.

In her interview Wednesday, Greene said the true beneficiaries of allegiance to Trump are not voters but his financial backers.

“Those are the people that get the special favors,” she said. “They get the government contracts, they get the pardons, or somebody they love or one of their friends gets a pardon.”

Criticism of donor influence

Since returning to office, Trump has encouraged wealthy supporters to make private contributions to fund high-profile initiatives, including the construction of a new White House ballroom and events surrounding the 250th anniversary of America’s founding in 2026.

Greene said those efforts reflect a governing style that favors elites over working-class Americans, a shift she argued contradicts Trump’s populist messaging.

She also accused the administration of focusing more on foreign policy priorities than domestic concerns, claiming powerful corporations and overseas interests are shaping U.S. decision-making.

“It’s the foreign countries. They are running the show here,” Greene said. “It’s the major big corporations and what is best for the world.”

Remarks on Gaza and global politics

Greene went further in her critique by denouncing U.S. policy toward the war in Gaza, alleging that economic interests are driving international conflict.

“We are seeing war on behalf of Israel, we are seeing the people in Gaza, innocent people in Gaza, hundreds of thousands of them completely murdered so that they can build some new real estate development,” Greene said. “Money can pour in and everybody can get rich there in the new Gaza.”

Her comments echo rhetoric she has increasingly used since leaving Congress, framing global politics as part of what she described as a broader “new world order.”

“And we’re seeing a whole plan play out, which is really a new way of doing business,” Greene said, likening the moment to a cultural unmasking. “It’s kind of like the ‘Scooby-Doo’ meme where they pull the mask off the bad guy.”

‘Not really about America’

Greene concluded that the MAGA movement, as currently practiced, no longer reflects the interests of American voters.

“The MAGA movement isn’t really about America or the American people,” she said.

Neither the White House nor Trump’s political operation immediately responded to requests for comment on Greene’s remarks.
