Katie Miller said she did not vote in Virginia in Tuesday’s midterm elections, citing concerns about her address becoming public after urging others to cast their ballots.

During CBS News’ election coverage on November 3, anchor Norah O’Donnell asked Miller whether she had voted. Miller, a conservative podcast host and the wife of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, said she had chosen to prioritize her safety and security.

“I did not vote in Virginia,” Miller said. She claimed that voting in the state would expose her home address. HuffPost and The Independent reported on the exchange.

Earlier, Miller had encouraged participation in the election on X, writing, “Vote like your life depends on it.” An archived version of her account shows that message among her Election Day posts.

Miller also discussed the demands on mothers while talking about turnout. She said raising children and caring for them could keep mothers from reaching the polls. O’Donnell then asked about Miller’s own experience as a mother of four.

Virginia’s Department of Elections says only certain political parties, candidates and nonprofit organizations can obtain registered voter lists for authorized purposes.

The department’s voter registration handbook also describes protections for some people who face threats or stalking, people with protective orders and participants in the state’s address confidentiality program. Qualifying voters can request that their residential addresses be withheld from lists available for public inspection while providing an alternative mailing address.

Those protections have eligibility requirements. The available reporting does not establish whether Miller sought protected voter status or whether she would qualify. Her comments describe her stated reason for sitting out the Virginia election.

Katie Miller’s admission came as she was publicly weighing in on voting elsewhere. The Associated Press reported that she accused the left of stealing elections after ballot scanners malfunctioned in New York’s Westchester County. Officials said the paper ballots would be secured and counted.
