Former Georgia Election Workers Sue to Seize Rudy Giuliani’s Assets After $148 Million Defamation Verdict

Former Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, who were defamed by Rudy Giuliani during the 2020 election, are now pursuing the former New York City mayor’s assets.

After winning a $148 million defamation lawsuit against Giuliani, Freeman and Moss have filed a lawsuit to seize his possessions, including his Upper East Side apartment, Palm Beach condominium, cash, and jewelry.

The legal action was triggered after a judge dismissed Giuliani’s bankruptcy case, removing a barrier that had been preventing the two women, who are among Giuliani’s largest creditors, from collecting the judgment. The defamation case stemmed from Giuliani’s false allegations that Freeman and Moss committed election fraud during the 2020 election, a claim that has since been thoroughly debunked.

In the court filing, Freeman and Moss’ lawyers argued that the asset seizure and receivership were necessary due to Giuliani’s repeated refusals to comply with court orders. The filing stated, “Mr. Giuliani has proven time and again that he will never voluntarily comply with court orders, much less voluntarily satisfy Plaintiffs’ judgment. At every step, Mr. Giuliani has chosen evasion, obstruction, and outright disobedience. That strategy reaches the end of the line here.”

Freeman and Moss have been fighting for justice since being falsely accused of tampering with ballots, accusations that were amplified by Giuliani and other allies of former President Donald Trump. Their lawsuit claimed Giuliani’s lies damaged their reputations and caused emotional and financial harm. In September, a court awarded them $148 million in damages, one of the largest defamation verdicts in recent years.

Ted Goodman, a spokesperson for Giuliani, condemned the ongoing legal action as politically motivated. “The justice system has been weaponized against Mayor Giuliani and so many others for strictly partisan political purposes,” said Goodman. “The appeal of the objectively unreasonable $148 million verdict hasn’t even been heard, yet opposing counsel continues to take steps designed to harass and intimidate Mayor Rudy Giuliani.”

The situation marks yet another significant legal setback for Giuliani, who has been battling multiple legal challenges since his involvement in efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. In addition to the defamation loss, Giuliani was disbarred in New York earlier this year and is facing an indictment in Arizona related to the state’s fake elector scheme.

As Freeman and Moss seek to enforce the judgment, their legal team remains determined to hold Giuliani accountable. “This is about justice,” one of their attorneys said. “Mr. Giuliani has had ample opportunity to comply with the court’s ruling, but he has chosen not to. We are committed to ensuring that he faces the consequences of his actions.”
