Aimee Harris, a Florida mother, faced sentencing on Tuesday for stealing and selling President Joe Biden’s daughter, Ashley Biden’s diary four years ago to the conservative group Project Veritas. Judge Laura Taylor Swain sentenced Harris to a month in prison and three months of home confinement, describing her actions as “despicable.”

Harris admitted guilt to a conspiracy charge in August 2022, confessing to receiving $20,000 of the $40,000 paid by Project Veritas for personal items belonging to Ashley Biden. Project Veritas, known for its hidden camera stings, identifies itself as a news organization.

Apologizing tearfully, Harris expressed remorse for allowing Ashley Biden’s private writings to be sold. She discovered the diary and other items at a friend’s home in Delray Beach, Florida, in 2020. Prosecutors revealed that Ashley Biden believed her belongings were safely stored there after a temporary stay in the spring of 2020.

Despite Harris’s plea for leniency, Swain emphasized her greed and desire to influence the political landscape. Initially, Harris and a co-defendant attempted to sell Ashley Biden’s belongings to then-President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign.

Robert Kurlander, a co-defendant from Jupiter, Florida, has yet to be sentenced. Both Harris and Kurlander pleaded guilty to conspiracy to transport stolen property across state lines.

Defense attorney Anthony Cecutti argued against prison time, citing Harris’s traumatic past and efforts to care for her children. However, Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Sobelman advocated for a prison sentence, emphasizing Harris’s disregard for the law and her victimization of Ashley Biden.

Harris, ordered to report to prison in July, left the courthouse without comment. Meanwhile, the lawyer representing Ashley Biden declined to provide additional remarks, though he submitted a letter on his client’s behalf to the judge.
