Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk is set to receive a highly classified Pentagon briefing detailing the United States’ war strategy against China, according to multiple U.S. officials. The briefing, scheduled for Friday, has sparked intense debate over national security risks and conflicts of interest, given Musk’s deep financial ties to China through Tesla and his critical role as a defense contractor via SpaceX.
The meeting will reportedly cover top-secret U.S. military operations, including potential targets, strategic responses, and the role of advanced weaponry in a possible conflict with Beijing. Officials say the decision to include Musk—who is not a government official or military advisor—reflects the Trump administration’s growing reliance on him for strategic decision-making.
Unprecedented Access Raises Security Concerns
National security experts have raised serious concerns about allowing a private businessman with extensive Chinese business interests to access highly sensitive war plans. Todd Harrison, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, expressed alarm over the decision.
“Giving the CEO of a defense company unique access to war plans is a major conflict of interest. This could set a dangerous precedent,” Harrison warned.
Musk’s SpaceX has secured billions in U.S. military contracts, particularly for satellite communications and missile defense systems. Some officials speculate his involvement in the briefing could influence future Pentagon spending, especially as Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team push for defense budget cuts.
Musk’s China Ties Under Scrutiny
Musk’s financial interests in China are another major point of concern. Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory accounts for over half of the company’s global deliveries, and Musk has been notably friendly toward the Chinese government in public statements.
“This is a serious national security risk,” said an unnamed Pentagon official. “We’re discussing war plans against China with someone whose business depends on China.”
With Musk’s increasing influence in Washington and the Pentagon, the briefing underscores his growing role in U.S. military and defense policy—a move that may have lasting geopolitical implications.
