Instagram Suspends Angie Nixon’s Latino Outreach Page During Her Puerto Rican Voter Rally One Week Before Election Day

Nixon says the @latinosconangie Instagram page went dark while her team was posting from a Kissimmee rally with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and she wants Meta to restore it and explain why.

Angie Nixon Instagram page suspended during her Florida Senate campaign

Instagram suspended Angie Nixon’s Spanish language outreach account, @latinosconangie, on Tuesday while her Senate campaign was hosting a rally for Puerto Rican voters in Osceola County, Florida.

Angie Nixon Instagram post on X calling on Meta to restore the latinosconangie page

Nixon, a Florida state representative and the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, took the Angie Nixon Instagram suspension straight to X. She said the page was taken down while her team was actively posting content from the event. She called the account a critical tool for reaching Latino voters and pointed out that Election Day is seven days away. She asked Meta, the company that owns Instagram, to restore the page immediately and explain why it was removed. She also tagged Andy Stone, Meta’s spokesperson.

The rally was billed as “Boricuas for Angie.” Boricua is a name Puerto Ricans use for themselves, taken from the Taino name for the island. The event at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee featured Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Nydia Velázquez of New York, along with Rep. Maxwell Frost of Florida. Osceola County is home to one of the largest Puerto Rican communities in the state, and the rally was a get out the vote event. That means it was built around turning supporters into actual voters before the polls close.

The notice Instagram sent the account explains Meta’s reasoning in one line. It says the account “doesn’t follow our Community Standards on account integrity.” Meta uses account integrity rules to target things like fake accounts, impersonation and activity that looks automated or coordinated. The email gives the campaign until April 25, 2027 to appeal and warns that the account will be permanently disabled if no one takes action. That appeal window runs nearly six months past an election that happens next week.

Angie Nixon Instagram suspension notice for the latinosconangie account

Meta has not publicly explained the suspension. As of publication, there is no word on whether the account has been restored.

This is the second politically active Instagram account Meta has knocked offline in the final weeks of this election. On October 17, Meta suspended the main account of the No Kings Coalition in the middle of the group’s nationwide early voting day of action. The coalition says the account went down around 1:30 p.m. Eastern and administrators were locked out until about 5:30. Stone called it an automated mistake and apologized the same day. His first explanation was that accounts posting, sharing or commenting at very high frequencies can trip Meta’s automated systems. A day later he gave a different one: Meta’s security systems had flagged a surge of requests for profiles, posts and hashtags as bot traffic.

That shifting story drew a response from 14 state attorneys general, led by Connecticut Attorney General William Tong. Their letter demands that Meta explain why the No Kings account was suspended, when the company learned about it, and whether any human reviewers were involved. They also want Meta to disclose any other legitimate election related accounts it has suspended this cycle. The answers are due Thursday, October 29. Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy has called for an investigation.

The Angie Nixon Instagram account now lands squarely in that question. Nixon is challenging Republican Sen. Ashley Moody, and her campaign has been courting Florida’s Latino voters hard in the closing stretch. The takedown came the same day her campaign was already pushing back on CBS News. The network deleted a post claiming she declined to say whether Cuba is a dictatorship, after acknowledging the post did not accurately portray her answer.

With early voting underway and Election Day on November 3, Nixon’s campaign is waiting on Meta for an answer.
