The Electoral College confirmed Joe Biden‘s win in the 2020 Presidential Election. Two hundred seventy electoral votes are required to win the presidency. Biden received 306 out of 538 electoral votes with Trump receiving 232 votes. This is the same margin of victory that Trump won by in 2016 and called a “landslide victory.”

“I’m forever humbled by the fact that 5.7 million people chipped in to power our campaign to victory,” the president-elect tweeted Monday night.

In various states, faithless electors can vote against their state’s popular vote. We saw this happen during the 2016 presidential election, where five electors voted against Hillary Clinton and two voted against Trump. This time, although Republicans in some states cast separate votes as “alternate electors,” there were zero faithless electors.

“We, the people, voted. Faith in our institutions held. The integrity of our elections remains intact,” Biden said during his speech Monday night.

Trump still refuses to concede. His campaign has launched several failed lawsuits in hopes of challenging the votes. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton recently asked the Supreme Court to throw out election results in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Paxton claims that the states broke multiple federal and state election laws. On December 11, the Supreme Court rejected the attempt to overturn the electoral votes in a 7-to-2 decision.

Congress will formally count the votes on January 6. There will be a joint session of Congress, and Vice President Mike Pence will announce the winner once the official ballots are counted. President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn into office on January 20.
